What's in a screen/user name? Tell us how you found yours.
Submitted by Bill.
well my username for vox is different from all my other usernames because i like variety. but also because i like pirates. anne bonny is one of the few and best known female pirates. she was ruthless and fearless in battles and pretty much did what she wanted to do. back in the day it was believed that having a woman on board a ship at all was bad luck...anne bonny pretty much proved them all wrong and was a really good pirate on top of all that. as a child i aspired to be a pirate and i'm kind of sad that it isn't really a profession any more...so i aspire to be like anne bonny, not so much in the killing people way but more in the fearless and strong way.
my username for everything else is sharpieincluded. it comes from this strongbad email. you have to watch the whole thing to really get the joke. at the end of the "infomercial" for the Ab-Abber 2000 you see the box for the product. if you click on it it says "sharpie not included." well since my name is abigail, i had a good friend who thought it would be a great idea to call me the Ab-Abber. but since i am a much improved model i come with the sharpie. haha. get it?
my screenname is an even lamer internet story. so everyone assumes that HxC stands for hardcore. wellllll i go to virginia tech and our mascot is the hokie bird. and every good hokie knows that HxC really stands for HOKIEcore. haha. so now you all know how big of a nerd i am. i hope you're happy.
in other, not qotd news, i had a pretty good weekend. curtis came up to visit so there were lots of fun hangouts to be had. also i got a new camera! it's a sony cybershot and i got an amazing deal on it. unfortunately i don't have a way to get my pictures off the camera/memory stick and onto my computer yet so once i do i will definitely be posting several amazing photos in 7.2 megapixel glory!
but now it is time for paper writing and juice drinking.
What are five things you're good at?
Submitted by HapaLove.
1. napping. i can nap whenever for long periods of time as long as i'm in a bed/on a couch.
2. eating. i'm totally awesome at eating a huge meal and then being super hungry again in like an hour and a half.
3. talking. if encouraged i can go on for hours.
4. writing. i can totally bang out a paper at the last minute and still get an A on it.
5. sarcasm. i can make fun of pretty much everyone and everything. try me.
i wish these were more unique. but this is what i'm truly good at,
basic human functioning: eating, sleeping and mocking others. i'm in a
super cynical mood these days and i'm not really sure why. i need some
good news. not just 'hey it's going to be warm tomorrow' good news but
some kind of life altering good news. and engagement/marriage/new baby
stuff doesn't count. it just reminds me of how close i am supposed to
be to being ok with all that stuff happening to me and how not even
close i am to being able to deal with any of it.
in other news. i think i'm going to try to submit a poem to the steger poetry competition, but it has to be about/involve/speak to the future so we'll see if i can think of something worth writing about.
ok that's all.
if you have any good future ideas let me know.
What are your resolutions for 2007?
1. work out and lose about 10 pounds.
2. eat healthier and work harder towards a balanced vegan diet.
3. write every day for at least an hour.
4. be happy.
i'll be heading back to blacksburg in like 9 days so if you're in va beach and want to hang out give me a call.
What books are on your nightstand?
basically i need to get reading like woah.
i've started les mis like twice now, i really want to read it but for some reason i haven't been able to commit to it.
i actually got about halfway through the unbearable lightness of being but for some reason i stopped reading it even though i loved it.
the foundation novels is actually a huge book that i found at a thriftstore that has the whole foundation trilogy as well as the naked sun and i, robot in it. and the best part is that i got it for a dollar!!.
megan suggested i read freakonomics and actually gave me her copy. i haven't started it yet but i'm looking forward to getting into it.
and finally, my copy of the importance of being earnest is also a collection of other short stories by oscar wilde. i've never read any wilde before but james loves the man and suggested that i read salome which is actually included in my copy of the book so there you have it!
i love reading and if i was allowed i would just stay in my room and read all of these wonderful books all day. /sigh.
What was (or is) your favorite subject in school?
literature has always been one of my favorite subjects. i love love love reading and analyzing works, especially poetry.
i'm such a nerd.
ps. i promise to write a good update when i'm not feeling mentally and emotionally destroyed.
pps. incase you were worried, i didn't get killed by the escaped convict running around blacksburg. i'll write about that later too.
What's your morning beverage of choice? Coffee, tea, juice? Homemade or store-bought?
i love watered down pom wonderful in the morning! unfortunately i am usually too poor so i try to stick with sparkling water since i'm still trying to kick the caffeine habit. tragically, when i am stressed out/not sleeping for more that 5 hours a night for over a week i fall into the caffeine trap. seriously. i love love love iced single americanos. so good. i'm so weak.
What was the first movie you remember seeing in a movie theater?
Question submitted by mainmor.
the first movie i ever saw in a movie theater was the little mermaid.
i remember it pretty vividly because i was terrified of Ursula the sea witch, especially in that part at the end where she gets electrocuted and you can see her whole skeleton. yeah that image stuck with me for a while.
it was also a special event because it was one of those daddy-daughter dates. my sister was still really little and my mom was pregnant/didn't feel well enough to go or something so it was just me and my dad, which was always something i looked forward to because he was away a lot.
and all those people running around hyperfocusing on phallic symbols etc need to just chill out. it is a great movie, with some awesome songs (come on, who doesn't like "kiss the girl"?) and it always makes me cry at the end when Ariel leaves her dad and sisters.
man. i really want to go buy it on dvd now...
